The Emirates, Painting No. 19 by Swav

I painted this one inspired by the colors of the flag, that I saw during walking with Betty, at the local Slieve Bloom Mountains. The weather was great, as for Ireland, around 12 °C and just light shower, fresh air, first flowers and panoramic views.

Somehow I noticed the colors of green grass, strong red, black and white. On the way back home I saw the flag, which to me was connected to a specific type of Eagle. I googled a bit and found the flag of The Emirates (United Arab Emirates) and, here it is

Thanks Dave 🙂 I’m starting my journey in photography with the beginning of November, because we have some plans to capture Northern Lights in Scotland, I’m not sure how many of us will go, but I’m going for 100%… I’ve ordered dslr for beginners, a Nikon d3200… How long you are a shooter/photographer and what kind of lenses you are using at the moment ?         Great to hear you picked up an dSLR! The northern lights are on my wish list also!!

        I have started photography in March 2013 first with a beginners body canon 1100d and now i use a canon 70d. What ever brand you pick you can never go wrong in this digital age.

        For lenses i currently own:
        1) Wide angle: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art, Bought this last weekend but it still needs some calibrating tho 😦
        2) My All round / Working horse: Canon 24-105mm f/4.0 L, ❤ this one
        3) The Nifty Fifty: Canon 50mm f/1.8 MkII, Good for learning and portraits.
        4) Fun Lens: Samyang 8mm Fisheye f/3.5-5.6

        For capturing northern lights i think you would want a wide angle lens to capture a large area or landscape a.k.a 10mm till 28mm'ish and a tripod, maybe a cable release or use 2sec count down shutter to avoid camera movement.

        Also on Flickr.com you can view other photographers wonderfull captures and some of them share their exif info (i.e. shutter, aperture, iso settings etc)

        Last but not least don't get caught in the 'i need to buy better gear to get better pictures'
        You can get great pictures with each camera, you need a bit of knowledge, luck with lighting and tons of fun 🙂

Your comment is awesome, thank you for the effort to write it down 🙂 I’m no planning to go ‘wild’ with the upgrades of gear, my attitude and approach towards life is more classic or analogue, as much as I can instead of running for the latest model of, etc… I will stick with the basics, thanks for the links as well, Cheers from Ireland 🙂

  6. Not really into paintings but I really what I saw here, Swav. Looking at the painting gives me that sense of youthfulness. The vibrant colors probably is the reason.

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience of it… when I look at it now, I can sense youthfulness, freshness, openness and lightness… so probably that’s why, it reminds me about the spirit of nature, which flows through all things around around us, as I guess 🙂
